This marvelous little book from Country Living is packed with just enough information for beginning bakers. The introduction includes tips for beginners, lists of top-quality ingredients and tools, and technique instruction. Novice bakers will appreciate the easy-to-make pie crusts as well as decorative borders and lattices. Fruit pie highlights include Summer Berry Tart with Chocolate-Crumb Crust and the simple Shaker Lemon Pie (which calls for four ingredients--lemons, sugar, eggs, and piecrust). The book also includes savory treats such as Tomato and Cheese Pie and Wild Mushroom Tart. Hand pies and turnovers range from Apple Butter and Oatmeal Breakfast Pockets to Cherry-Walnut Turnovers. Highly recommended.
