Happily paired up in The Wanderer, Gina James and Sheriff "Mac" McCain, both single parents and longtime friends, and helicopter pilot Sarah Dupre and beach-bar owner "Coop" Cooper are beginning to settle into their newfound relationships when the past returns with a vengeance, joy, and startling revelations, rocking their worlds and those of their loved ones. An unwelcome ex-wife, a shocking disclosure from a former lover, a job reassignment with life-changing potential, and a teenage romantic drama are only a few of the surprises that drive the intricate plot in the latest addition to this addictive series. VERDICT With her trademark mixture of humor, realistic conflict, and razor-sharp insights, Carr brings Thunder Point to vivid life, reprising familiar characters, introducing some engaging new ones, and delivering a spot-on combination of romance and women's fiction that will appeal to fans of "community builders" such as Susan Wiggs and Jill Shalvis. Carr lives in the Las Vegas area.

Carr returns to Thunder Point, a tiny town on the Oregon coast, revisiting the characters introduced in The Wanderer (2013). Cooper is happy he stayed in Thunder Point, and his remodeled business is doing well as his relationship with Coast Guard helicopter pilot Sarah deepens, but he is in for a huge, life-changing surprise. The town's deputy sheriff, Mac, raising three children on his own with help from his aunt, has fallen in love with Gina, the mother of his 16-year-old daughter's best friend, Ashley. Life gets tough when Gina's daughter becomes the object of digital bullying. Mac has problems, too, relating to his gorgeous, apparently wealthy ex-wife, who abandoned him and their young children. And Sarah is up for a reassignment in the Coast Guard that will complicate things for the brother she is raising. Carr dramatizes and deepens her themegood people caring for each otheras she continuesher thoughtful, well-plotted series with its compelling characters discovering, often the hard way, what family and community mean.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)

Single dad "Mac" McCain, Thunder Point's deputy sheriff, and Gina James are friends who are slowly giving in to the romance growing between them. But when Mac's ex comes back to town, everyone is in for some surprises. Consistent volume, change notices, and thought repetition at the beginning of each disc complement Therese Plummer's clear, nicely paced speech despite Plummer's straining with male voices and overly long pauses between chapters. VERDICT This title will be of interest to Carr's fans and romance readers.
